Before you go on a long vacation, you should have a mechanic look at your vehicle to see if anything is wrong with it. If you happen to break down, you may have to take your car to a towing company and have a mechanic look at it, which can take days. Either way, a mechanic is going to have to look at your vehicle, so you might as well do it now than later.
When you take your car to a mechanic, he or she may place caravan spare parts on your vehicle that came from another vehicle. Many of the times, the spare parts work just as well as the new ones. The mechanic should let you know if he or she uses spare parts because you may not want that on your vehicle.
When you use spare parts, you are saving yourself some money. You may just want your car in good enough shape, so that you can get to and from your destination. There is no need to spend a lot of money on a vehicle that is already in good shape. On the other hand, if the vehicle is used, the mechanic may need to use more parts from another vehicle, but it still may be cheaper than purchasing new parts.
Another thing you need to remember when traveling is to fill your gas tank up. Bring at least one extra gas can with you, just in case you run out of gas on the highway. You can just walk to the nearest gas station and get some gas in the can.
Make sure that your vehicle does not run hot on you while traveling. Vehicles have been known to catch on fire when they do not have enough water or oil in them. The mechanic will check that as well. It may be a good idea to get the mechanic to change your oil. Once the mechanic releases the vehicle back to you, that will be one less thing to worry about. The only thing you will need to worry about is packing and getting to your destination.
